The California legislature passed a law late Monday relaxing sex offender registry requirements for sodomy and other acts with minors in efforts to end “discrimination against LGBTQ young people on the sex offender registry,” according to the bill’s sponsor.
The register should just be abolished. It has never done any good. It hasn’t prevented a single crime, and possibly caused more. It is just a spiteful machine for punishing people after they’ve done their time.
I am fairly sure that 90% of the time they’re not “so dangerous to the public to need to go on it”. If they were “dangerous” (or black, as that is a common synonym for the justice system), it looks as if our methods for handling these issues are medieval enough to be useless. Or make things worse. It does not help that a psychologist can get cancelled for having the wrong opinion.
A danger to the public clearly means a danger to the public. This is not someone urinating in a bush, someone having consensual sex as a teenager with a teenager, someone viewing images on the internet, teens “sexting”, drug offenses (on a rare occasion), someone in violation of archaic obscenity law, someone in possession of an inanimate object, or someone who has an unpopular opinion.
It isn’t helpful that every offense is treated as if they’re capable of doing all of the other things at any given time either. We don’t have a murderers registry, white collar crimes registry, or a thieves registry, why this one?
The comments are a joy to behold. The point of this bill is to harmonize how two groups are treated, it was never to give anyone a “free pass”. And he isn’t writing anything into statute which wasn’t already there. It says nothing about them bucking punishment regardless, only unconstitutional post-punishment.
I don’t have much of an opinion on sentencing durations here. Preferably, not so long they choose to kill the victims to silence them.
The New York Times recently wrote articles bashing pedophiles as heavily as they could possibly bash them. If they’re secret supporters, this must mean the Nazis really love Jews? Pedophobic would be a fear of children. Isn’t California the State where they love to look the other way at inmates converting alive pedophiles into dead pedophiles in prisons?
